What's New in Lighting from the Atlanta Market 2015

Are you a shopaholic? I am. As Robb & Stucky’s Creative Director, shopping for what’s new and next is a job requirement. Lucky for me it’s a passion too. I’m exhausted and energized, having just returned from the Atlanta Market with over 7.2 million square feet of showroom space, thousands of exhibitors, and buyers from the world over in attendance. The Atlanta show is where the pros shop. Are you wondering what I came home with?

Lighting. Simply put, the Atlanta show was ablaze. Let me cast the spotlight on some of my favorites, soon on their way to Robb & Stucky for your shopping pleasure.

Bling is back. One of my favorite finds is the Cloister Lamp from Currey and Company. The lamp’s faceted column base is formed by the artful arrangement of glimmering capiz shells. The play of light is amazing, and the lamp is finished with a shantung silk shade. You won’t have to wait to find Cloister at Robb & Stucky. Call it my impulse buy. These lamps will be at the store soon.

Does it surprise you that my next Atlanta Market favorite is a bit more dialed back? It’s the Coatsbridge Lamp, also from Curry and Company. Gray is continuing to have its day – and lighting is no exception. Stately and statuesque, this lamp recreates the look of gray stone with a concrete-finished base. Hand-carved decorative accents will remind you of garden walls or manor gates. Coatsbridge is topped with an oatmeal linen shade. This lamp is another Atlanta must-have. The coveted Coatsbridge lamp will soon be en route to Robb & Stucky’s Southwest Florida stores.

Market is all about making new friends, finding new resources. Wait until you meet Mr. Brown, the London-based furniture company specializing in what they call “English informality for a modern life.”

The Appley Lamp from Mr. B is one of my favorites. Appley is handblown and two-toned. No two are exactly alike. The lamp’s curvaceous pale blue base lamp is “dipped” in silver, a terrific execution of mercerized glass, another emerging trend. Appley is finished with a linen shade and set on a Lucite® base.

Did someone say Lucite®? Southwest Florida loves Lucite®, and apparently it’s hot in London too. Robb & Stucky snapped up two Lucite®-base lamps from Mr. Brown. The Oslo Table Lamp base is a perfectly square shaft of clear Lucite®. The Luxembourg Table Lamp base is a faintly tinted blue circle of Lucite®. The ying and yang of lamps.

Great lighting is like jewelry: the fab finishing touch. That’s why I am always fine-tuning my shopaholic skills. The Atlanta Market was illuminating, and the glow is about to spread to Florida. I want our shoppers to get lit up when they see the new styles at Robb & Stucky – now and with more always on the way.
